Baker, Pickett Announce $343,855 in Funding for Bradford County
1/30/2018
HARRISBURG – The Department of Community and Economic Development has awarded a total of $343,855 in state grants for projects in Bradford County, announced Reps. Matt Baker (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter) and Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna).

Bradford County will receive $247,892 for the retention of its housing inspector and contactors, as well as to continue funding its Low- to Moderate-Income (LMI) single-family, owner-occupied housing program. The program works to help financially strapped families make needed renovations and repairs to their homes, such as damaged roofs, code violations, broken water heaters, etc.

“This grant money will help with Bradford County’s housing program, which seeks to renovate homes for families in need,” said Baker. “This program helps many families achieve a safe and comfortable home in which to raise their children. I look forward to seeing this money put to use and having more homes receive repairs through this great program.”

Funding going to the county will also cover storm water improvements for New Albany, which will include street paving, drainage and bridge repair work.

Grant money for Sayre Borough will help update vital infrastructure. The borough will receive $95,963 for the continuation of a sewer project for the Higgins-Tioga-Holly streets area in the borough. This project aims to replace a century-old system in order to improve drainage and service.

“Affordable housing and reliable infrastructure are important parts of a safe community, and are worthwhile investments in our area,” Pickett said. “These grants will go a long way toward their intended goals.”

Funding was awarded under the DCED’s 2016 Community Development Block Grant Program.
