Pickett Announces $200,000 Grant to Help Adults with Literacy, Job Skills

HARRISBURG – Adults seeking additional education and literacy skills in order to obtain employment will have more opportunities to do so, thanks to a $208,826 grant awarded to Bradford County Action Inc., Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) announced today.

“This substantial grant will enable residents of Bradford, Susquehanna and Tioga counties to be able to complete their GED or obtain critical skills that will make them more marketable in the workforce,” Pickett said.

The Adult Basic Education Direct Service grants, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, are awarded to assist adults to become literate and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and economic self-sufficiency. Eligible applicants for this funding include school districts, libraries, volunteer literacy organizations, public housing authorities, community colleges, and public and private nonprofit agencies.

Bradford County Action Inc. is a private nonprofit organization founded in 1966 as a community-based organization. Its activities include academic instruction, career preparation, career exploration and interest assessment, on-the-job training, supportive services and employer services.
