ATHENS – To help senior citizens, family members and caregivers better access services and programs which may be helpful to them, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) will host her 17th annual Senior Expo, to be held Friday, June 9, at the Athens Lynch-Bustin Elementary School, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“Our Senior Expo is a great place for senior citizens of all activity levels to meet and learn more about programs and services that can benefit them,” Pickett said. “Seniors can learn more about volunteer programs, drop off unwanted medications for safe disposal, bring old documents for secure shredding and even sign up for special programs.”

To date, more than 80 exhibitors are expected to offer information on health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, financial planning, fraud protection, government services and veterans benefits.

At 11:30 a.m., Pickett will hold her town hall meeting in the school’s cafeteria to update seniors, their families and caregivers about state budget negotiations and many other important legislative action items accomplished during the spring session.

Refreshments will be offered, and the school is air conditioned for seniors’ comfort.

The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring the prescription drug take-back drop-off, and North Central Sight Services will have an on-site shredder to safely destroy documents containing personal and sensitive information, such as credit card statements, utility bills and items with Social Security and account numbers.

The school is located at 253 Pennsylvania Ave. in Athens. From Route 220, take the second Athens Business Exit to Pine Street. Signs will be posted directing participants to school parking. Shuttle service will be provided from the school’s parking lot to the building’s front door.

Anyone with questions about the expo can contact Pickett’s Towanda office at (570) 265-3124 or her Sayre office at (570) 888-9011. To prepare for the Expo, her full-time district offices will close early on Thursday, June 8.
