HARRISBURG – Comcast Cable Communications LLC today was awarded nearly $2.9 million in federal funding for broadband expansion projects in Wyoming County, according to Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming).

“After years of waiting, broadband service will soon be a reality for customers in unserved and underserved areas of Wyoming County through this program,” said Pickett. “We all know how critical the internet is in our daily lives, and I am so pleased to see that reliable, high-speed broadband service is finally coming to more communities in the Northern Tier.”

The funding was made available through the state’s Broadband Infrastructure Program (BIP) and approved at a meeting of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority in Harrisburg.

The authority awarded more than $204 million for 53 broadband expansion projects statewide. BIP targets locations that do not currently have access to 25/3 Mbps reliable service. The competitive grant program funds extensions of existing last-mile cable modem and fiber-to-the-premise broadband networks, and large-scale regional projects that can transform broadband availability by serving large numbers of eligible addresses.
