State Budget Spends Way Too Much, Pickett Says

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming) on Monday joined the majority of her Republican colleagues in opposing a Democrat budget plan put up for a vote.

“I voted ‘no’ on the budget proposal because it spends $50.6 billion, an overinflated amount without the revenue to support it,” said Pickett. “There is no support for energy development, no effort to cut red tape or waste, and no commitment to school choice. These are Republican priorities that were completely ignored to the detriment of our citizens.”

House Bill 1330 was not negotiated with the Senate or governor’s office, so further negotiations are needed.

“This spending plan does not serve the people of Pennsylvania,” Pickett added. “This budget bill is not in anyone’s best interest, especially Pennsylvania’s taxpayers. More needs to be done to get agreement from all parties while keeping in mind the need for fiscal responsibility and policy that significantly grows Pennsylvania’s economy.”

Pickett noted the 2025-26 state budget is two weeks overdue but emphasized the importance of passing a final plan that keeps spending in check and supports growing the state’s economy.
