Rep. Pickett Comments on House Passage of 2018-19 State Budget - 6/20/2018
The Fiscal Year 2018-19 General Appropriation bill (House Bill 2121) is on its way to the state Senate for consideration after the House of Representatives passed it Thursday by a vote of 188-10. The $32.7 billion spending plan increases growth by 1.7 percent, which is below the rate of inflation (2.13 percent), requires no additional taxes or revenues and officially erases a deficit. The budget also includes a record high $12.3 billion investment in education from pre-k through 12th grade, with additional increases in funding for career and technical education as well as higher education. The budget bill is expected to be sent to the governor prior to June 30, after anticipated Senate passage.
Pickett Says House Insurance Committee to Examine Issues Surrounding the Regulation of the Air Ambulance Industry - 4/17/2017
The House Insurance Committee, led by Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna), will hold an informational meeting to learn more about federal legislation that would allow state governments to regulate the air ambulance industry. Rep. Pickett appeared at a press conference held Monday in Harrisburg with state insurance regulators and citizens who have experienced unexpectedly high bills from air ambulance companies. Rep. Pickett said legitimate questions have arisen about how air ambulance companies are regulated and about how the government can protect patients who may not receive adequate compensation from their health insurers to cover the costs of air ambulance services.
Pickett Bill to Exempt Maple Sugar Houses from UCC Passes House - 3/21/2017
Legislation that will help bring a measure of common sense to the state’s Uniform Construction Code, especially as it applies to those agricultural buildings used by maple sugar producers in northern Pennsylvania, passed the state House Monday in Harrisburg. Sponsor of House Bill 177, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford, Sullivan & Susquehanna), said her legislation will remove burdensome building code requirements for the construction of the small maple sap processing structures commonly known as “sugar houses.”
Pickett Comments on House Passage of On-Time State Budget with No Tax Increases - 6/27/2015
The House voted today, 112-77, in favor a $30.18 billion state budget that provides funding for the core functions of government without increasing the tax burden for Pennsylvania citizens. The budget legislation includes more than $200 million in increases for early childhood education, basic education and higher education; as well as additional funding for people with intellectual disabilities. The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration and is expected to go to the governor’s desk in the next several days. Comments are now available from Rep. Pickett Cosponsors Bill to Protect Natural Gas Royalty Owners - 6/23/2015
Legislation that will help protect landowners with natural gas leases in Pennsylvania against the deduction of unjustified post-production costs from their royalty payments has been introduced in Harrisburg. Cosponsor of House Bill 1391, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford, Sullivan & Susquehanna) said existing law regarding mineral rights needs to be clarified to ensure landowners are getting fair treatment from large gas producers.
Rep. Pickett Comments on Importance of Marcellus Shale Impact Fee Revenues for the 110th District - 6/10/2015
House members are expressing their concern that Marcellus Shale impact fee revenues must continue to flow directly to communities across the state and not be redirected to the general fund in Harrisburg under a new gas tax proposed by Gov. Tom Wolf. Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford, Sullivan & Susquehanna) said impact fee revenues are critical to her district and are calculated to bring in $25.3 million this year.
Rep. Pickett Reacts to Governor’s Budget Proposal Calling for $4.7 Billion in New Spending - 3/4/2015
Republican members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives offered their reactions to Gov. Wolf’s $33.8 billion state budget proposal, delivered Tuesday before a joint session of the House and Senate. The Governor’s plan would increase state spending by $4.7 billion and also increase a variety of state taxes, including the personal income tax and sales tax, as well as create a new gas severance tax which would be among the highest in the nation. An average Pennsylvania household with a median income of $52,548 would pay an additional 21% in state taxes under the Governor’s plan.
Rep. Pickett Comments on House Passage of Education Improvement Bill - 9/23/2014
Legislation designed to improve Pennsylvania’s Education system by increasing transparency, enhancing flexibility, and ensuring reimbursement for construction and renovation projects has been passed by the Pennsylvania House. Senate Bill 1281 would establish SchoolWatch, a program that opens the financial books of school districts to taxpayers, and would also reform PlanCon, the state’s system for compensating districts for building new schools and upgrading facilities. Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford, Sullivan & Susquehanna) said school districts need to know that the state will deliver on its promises when it comes to school construction funding. Rep. Pickett Bill to Streamline Eligibility and Renewal Process for CHIP - 6/9/2014
Legislation to help streamline eligibility for Pennsylvania’s Children’s Health Insurance Program was approved this week by the House Insurance Committee in Harrisburg. Committee Chair Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford, Sullivan & Susquehanna) said the bill would take steps to reduce and simplify the administrative red tape required when renewing CHIP coverage for children by providing for a continuous eligibility process. Rep. Pickett Comments on Gas Royalty Bill Discussed Tuesday by the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee - 3/11/2014
Legislation sponsored by Reps. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming), Tina Pickett (R-Bradford, Sullivan & Susquehanna) and Matt Baker (R-Tioga & Bradford) to clarify minimum royalty payments in state law was the subject of a meeting of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee Tuesday in Harrisburg. Cosponsor of the legislation Tina Pickett (R-Bradford, Sullivan & Susquehanna) said lawmakers have worked long and hard on this royalty bill to protect landowners and hope to move on a final version of the plan early next week.
