Pickett Reacts to State Budget Proposal

Taxpayers, future of PA are focus of 2011-12 budget plan

Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) said today she is pleased with the general direction of Pennsylvania’s priorities, as outlined by Gov. Tom Corbett during his 2011-12 budget address in Harrisburg on Tuesday.

At the close of the address, she issued the following statement:

“I find it refreshing that Pennsylvania finally has a governor who realizes that if the money isn’t available, it can’t be spent. It also is encouraging to have heard during his address that his top priority involves private industry maintaining and keeping jobs in Pennsylvania, especially in terms of the Marcellus shale industry and the untapped Utica shale.

“Governor Corbett’s address was encouraging in that the focus was on taxpayers and putting our Commonwealth back on a road to economic recovery by encouraging job creation, streamlining government and removing burdensome regulations; however, it still remains to be seen what type of impact this will have on our communities.

“During the next several weeks, my colleagues and I on the House Appropriations Committee will be closely examining every detail of this proposal. Although this budget may be difficult for some to swallow, it reflects the tough economic times in which we’re living. The choices we’re going to be asked to make with this budget are the same choices individuals and families in Pennsylvania have been making for the past several years.”

In total, the budget includes $27.3 billion in spending, a reduction of 3.1 percent from last year.
