Pickett Resolution Designates July 20 as Veterans Appreciation Day in PA
HARRISBURG – To show appreciation to veterans throughout Bradford County and Pennsylvania, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) has secured legislative approval of a measure designating July 20, 2014, at Veterans Appreciation Day in Pennsylvania and recognizing the 26th annual Veterans Appreciation Picnic in Bradford County that day.

House Resolution 916, which received a unanimous vote on Friday, officially names July 20 as Veterans Appreciation Day in Pennsylvania. The resolution also specifically acknowledges the veterans from Bradford County and all other 66 counties of the Commonwealth for their roles in protecting freedom and democracy throughout this nation’s history, from the Revolutionary War to our presence in Iraq and other areas of the world.
“Like many of the communities around our state, the people of Bradford County have a deep appreciation for the men and women who don a military uniform and sacrifice so much for the causes of freedom and liberty,” Pickett said in her remarks before her House colleagues when the resolution was voted.
“It is so important that we continue to honor the men and women who have served our country – and those who continue to serve in our all-volunteer forces,” she continued. “And that is also why I am very proud to recognize Bradford County and its annual Veterans Appreciation Day. For 26 consecutive years, the Bradford County community has come together to show its appreciation for our veterans and their heroism.”
She further told her colleagues that this Veterans Appreciation Picnic not only reaches out to the veterans who live in our community, but those who may be homebound, and of course, to the families who give their love and support each day for our men and women in uniform.
