Small Business Group Honors Pickett for Legislative Record
9/29/2016
HARRISBURG – To recognize her legislative efforts to protect and promote small businesses in Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has named Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) a Guardian of Small Business.

“As a former small business owner, I bring that expertise and perspective to the House when developing policies and casting votes on important business legislation,” Pickett said. “Business issues not only involve tax policies, but the myriad of regulations our entrepreneurs must sort through and follow in order to stay open and competitive in our ever-changing world.”

The honor is based on Pickett’s voting record on behalf of Pennsylvania’s small businesses in the 2015-16 session of the General Assembly.

“Small business owners pay close attention to how their lawmakers vote,” said NFIB’s Legislative Director Neal Lesher. “While many lawmakers claim to support small business, the NFIB voting record proves that these lawmakers were true and consistent advocates for small business. If the Legislature helps mom-and-pop companies succeed, it helps the Pennsylvania economy and creates jobs.”

The Guardian of Small Business Award is given to senators and representatives who voted favorably on key small business issues at least 75 percent of the time. The voting record includes only votes on small business issues, not all of the votes cast during the session. The key issues include regulatory reform, tax measures, employer mandates and policies that help to enable small business growth.

According to the state Labor Department, 98 percent of all Pennsylvania businesses employ fewer than 100 workers. These businesses account for about half of all private sector jobs in the state.
